After the murder of George Floyd, tensions between the Minneapolis community and Minneapolis Police Department had reached a boiling point, and as the world watch on, residents experienced a historic uprising. It has now been a few months since that tragic police killing, and community trust in local officials is still at an all time low, as justice has not yet occurred. Recently in Minneapolis, when the unfortunate tragedy of a young Black man taking his own life was rumored to be an officer-involved shooting, another uprising happened in downtown Minneapolis, resulting in dozens of arrests. Local activists and community leaders worked to dispel the rumors and to help calm the situation down, in an effort to prevent further tragedy and trauma from occurring.
Nekima Levy Armstrong appeared on TPT Almanac to discuss the role she and other local activists took after local police officials reached out for support in de-escalating another uprising in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
